Following her campaign to improve access to cash in Swanley, Laura Trott MP has today welcomed the announcement that Swanley has been selected for a pilot being established by the Cash Action Group (CAG).
Over the last year, and following bank closures in Swanley, Laura has been working hard with local councillors to find a way to improve access to cash for our community. This included approaching the Cash Action Group (CAG) to ask for a Banking Hub to be set up in the town. CAG is made up of 10 of the largest UK retail banks, leading consumer groups and the Federation of Small Business who are working together to create shared cash and banking services to address the gap left by closing bank branches.
The pilot, announced today, will cover 12 locations across the UK and Swanley has been included further to the call for action made by Laura Trott MP to tackle the lack of cash services in the town. It will work with local MPs and the local community to pilot new ideas, with the aim to both support the communities need for access to cash, as well as test ideas for national rollout.
Speaking following the announcement Laura Trott MP said:
“Access to cash in Swanley is vital for business and the local community. I am delighted that following lots of work, Swanley will be involved in this latest pilot. I look forward to working with the community and CAG in delivering it.”
Laura Trott MP today met with the Cash for Action Group in Parliament to discuss the pilot, and later this week will also be meeting with a range of people from the town to scope our initial needs and ideas. It is vital that we improve cash and banking facilities in Swanley and by working together I believe we can achieve this.”
