Today the Women’s Health Strategy for England was published.
More than 100,000 women took part in the consultation last year, and the strategy sets out how women’s healthcare needs will be improved at every stage of their life. I am particularly pleased to see:
👉🏻 the first ever Women’s Health Ambassador for England has been appointed, to champion women’s voices
👉🏻 that Women’s Hubs will be encouraged across the country, bringing together essential women’s services and creating a ‘one stop clinic’ for sexual and reproductive health services
👉🏻 that personalised maternity care is being prioritised, so that women are listened to and empowered to make the right decisions for them and their baby
👉🏻 And non-clinical access criteria to fertility treatment will be removed, making it easier for same-sex couples to have children through IVF
Since my election, I have been a strong advocate for improving women’s health services – from regulating non-surgical cosmetic procedures (including my own Private Member’s Bill), to improving maternity safety in the NHS. This strategy is an important step forward and will help give the issue the attention it deserves.
