At this morning’s Health and Social Care Committee I spoke to Professor Stephen Powis, National Medical Director at NHS England and asked him about how the NHS will be making A&E admissions safer and more accessible. He confirmed that the NHS are currently piloting a call first approach, which will direct members of the public to using services such as 111, and their GPs, before visiting their local A&E department.
This is a huge change to the way many constituents will have been visiting A&E departments in the past and I will be speaking to our local CCG in the coming weeks to understand what investments are needed locally to ensure this is a viable and improved option for us locally.
