Recently I met with Sevenoaks District Council and Swanley Town Council concerning the two alternate sites for the proposed rugby stadium – either side of the M25 close to junction 3. Followed by an online meeting with Chris Holland the owner of Wasps.
With the councils’ I discussed the practicalities of planning, transport and infrastructure and with Wasps, their plans for the stadium complex – which include the ability to put on events, conferences and banqueting, as well as community use.
With community support, and the right infrastructure improvements, the stadium brings exciting potential for the area (including jobs and custom for local shops). However I was clear that both must engage with the community from the outset and listening closely to what is said.
I am staying closely involved as discussions proceed and will work hard to ensure that if this proposal goes ahead, it will be to the benefit of the community – not to its detriment.
