Surgeons and emergency doctors told the Health and Social Care Select Committee yesterday that COVID-free hospital facilities should urgently be set up to start tackling the backlog of cases. Dr Katherine Henderson of The Royal College of Emergency Medicine set out in detail how a new accident and emergency (A&E) system could work, so that social distancing measures can be maintained.
Many constituents have been in touch with me over the last few weeks to voice concerns over visiting hospitals for non COVID-19 related issues. In response I therefore asked what is needed from the Government for such changes to be made, and whether her proposals are a long term solution to some of the challenges our A&E units face.
