Further to my meeting last month with Kent Police and Matthew Scott, PCC for Kent on antisocial behaviour, Kent Police and Sevenoaks District Council are now considering the introduction of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) at The Vine.
A PSPO is an additional tool that gives the Police and Council Officers powers to help reduce specific anti-social behaviours – including issuing warnings, or a fixed penalty notices for anti-social behaviour carried out by individuals.
The consultation will run until this Sunday (24th September 2023), so please do make sure you have your say, my responding to the consultation which can be found at: https://s-url.co/W2oIAA
The police have been very clear this move is to enhance people’s enjoyment of our beautiful public space – not to restrict it – and I support them and Sevenoaks District Council at looking at every tool available to ensure The Vine remains a relaxing and safe space for all residents.
In the meantime, if you do experience any antisocial behaviour locally, please report it. If the incident is an emergency call 999, otherwise you can call 101. Sevenoaks District Council can also be reached on 01732 227000, or by visiting https://www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/.../41/anti-social_behaviour
Antisocial behaviour is not a ‘low-level’ crime and that’s why I am determined to bring it to a stop locally.
