Today it was a pleasure to contribute to the moving debate on International Women's Day. I was planning to deliver a speech which discussed how we can help women in the economic recovery from Covid, however in light of the heart breaking developments over the last 24 hours in the Sarah Everard case, I wanted to reflect on the urgent need to address violence against women.
What we have seen online is an outpouring of grief, as people have shared their own stories and experiences. And, what is clear is that incidents of women being harassed or attacked are nowhere near rare enough.
Women have a right to feel safe, and we must now make this a reality.
