Many of you have been in touch over the last few weeks voicing your concerns about the Governments proposed house building targets – particularly given the local impact it will have here in Sevenoaks. These are concerns I share and today I raised them in the Backbench Business debate in the chamber.
There is undoubtedly a shortage of affordable housing nationwide, and this is preventing families, including those in Sevenoaks, from getting onto the housing ladder. It is an unacceptable situation which must be addressed. However, we must also protect our Green Belt and any housing expectations must not be blind to the local geographical circumstances when looking to achieve this.
Sevenoaks District Council Official have been brilliant in delivering sustainable housing, with the consent of the community. We must allow them to continue to do so.
