I am delighted to say that this week I received a letter from the Mayor of London, who has confirmed that after our successful campaign, he will not be introducing a boundary charge for driving into London.
This is fantastic news, and I know will be a huge relief to all of us who cross the boundary for work, leisure, school or childcare.
Thank you to all of you who showed your support for the campaign, particularly Swanley Kent County Councillor Perry Cole who organised a petition against the boundary charge and represented local opposition in Swanley and Hextable – two of the areas that would have been most affected.
In his letter, the Major sets out that he is now looking into an extension of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across London in 2023. This will mean that diesel cars registered before September 2015, and most vans registered before September 2016, will have to pay a ULEZ charge to drive into London. Cars with petrol engines will not be liable for the charge if registered in 2006 or later (nor in some instances if registered between 2001 – 2005, depending on the model). While I know a number of vehicles are now ULEZ compliant, I would be keen to know locally how many people would still be affected.
To find out if you vehicle is ULEZ compliant please visit: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ulez-vrm-checker and do get in touch with me with your thoughts on the proposal at [email protected].
I look forward to hearing from you.
