Thank you all for the truly heart-warming nominations we have received for Community Hero of the Week. They have been lovely to read through amidst all the challenging news that surrounds us at the moment.
I am delighted to announce today that our first Community Hero of the Week is Charmaine and Steve Powell of the Portobello Inn, West Kingsdown.
Despite the pub having to close for public use, they have been supplying and cooking free meals for the elderly and self-isolating, as well as donating food to the hardworking front line critical care staff at Darent Valley Hospital (DVH)
. True community spirit in action.
I’m talking to Charmaine and Steve later today, and I think I will speak for all of us in thanking them for their extraordinary efforts. Their story will also be covered in print as part of our Community Heroes partnership with the Sevenoaks Chronicle, which is out on Thursday.
