I was delighted to be in the chamber of the House of Commons yesterday to hear Rishi Sunak deliver his first budget statement as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Transport infrastructure and ensuring our environment is protected are two of the most important issues that this Government is facing and there was some good news on these issues for us in Sevenoaks and Swanley. I was delighted that the Government has committed to developing the Lower Thames Crossing which I know is a vital link for so many local residents and the Chancellor announced a £9 million fund to tackle fly-tipping and find new ways to keep our environment clean.
There were some very welcome announcements nationally too. We have raised the National Insurance threshold to £9,500, slashed business rates and frozen alcohol duty. It is absolutely right that the Government is developing our infrastructure, keeping our environment clean and supporting businesses throughout the country to unleash Britain’s economic potential.
