As a Sevenoaks district resident I am struck daily how lucky we are live in this amazing area. And one (of many!) reasons for this is because of our fantastic local businesses who play a pivotal role in our community.
One of the great privileges of being your MP is that I get to meet the people working behind the scenes to ensure these business flourish. Extraordinary entrepreneurs and fantastic business owners of both global companies, such as Rotosound and CARES, as well as thriving SMEs such as Eco Pantry and Kerry’s Pets.
Last Friday I had the honour of opening the Sevenoaks Business Show - my third since becoming an MP, and as I walked around the hall, I was struck by the sheer about of talent on display.
It was great to meet the teams behind the new business hubs at Salters Heath Business Centre, Lime Tree Walk Workshop, Help Suits and the Town Council Business Hub, as well as speak to representatives from fourfrys creative, the Stag Theatre and TN Card – to name just a few.
I firmly believe that local business is the lifeblood of our country. And when local businesses succeed, the whole country benefits.
For me, the High Street remains a great indicator of a town’s health, and when I walk around Sevenoaks, I see new businesses continually moving in – proof that confidence in our town remains high.
I am often approached by new or existing businesses, looking to locate within out district. The close links to the M25, and the costal ports continue to be a huge draw. Sevenoaks Town Council, the Town Team, Sevenoaks District Council and Sevenoaks Chamber of Commerce do excellent work in promoting our area and making it as business friendly as possible.
It is working and I am hopeful for the future.
Finally, this Friday I will be hosting my first pensioner drop in at the Alexandra Suite in Swanley, from 11am-12.30pm. It is open to everyone, whether at retirement age or looking to help their family members or friend. The event will provide advice and guidance including – checking if individuals are eligible for Pension Credit and raising awareness of local initiatives to support with the cost of living and their health and wellbeing. I will be joined by Age UK, Citizens Advice, Sevenoaks District Council, Swanley Town Council and Kent County Council so please do drop by and check to see if you, or your family members are getting the support they deserve.
